On the 25th and 26th of April 2016, the European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP) supported under EU COSME programme will organise in collaboration with the Enterprise Europe Network a thematic matchmaking event with the aim of promoting EU-U.S. cluster-to-cluster and cluster-to-business partnerships in various fields. Clusters with activity related to industrial automation and IT, energy and environmental technology, industrial supply, production engineering and services, as well as research and development, in EU and COSME participating countries are welcome to apply for benefitting of this unique opportunity.

An ICT-focused cluster matchmaking event will take place during the European Innovation Week in Taipei (Taiwan) from the 30th of May to the 1st of June of 2016. The Cluster Matchmaking Event will coincide with the COMPUTEX Fair. The Event represents a real opportunity to foster cooperation between European and Asian clusters and their Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) members within the ICT field.


A Call for Expression of Interest will be published in the coming weeks on the European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP) to form a European delegation of representatives from cluster organisations focused in the ICT field. Check the ECCP platform regularly for the Call for Expression of Interest!


The Cluster Matchmaking Event will be part of the "European Innovation Week in Taiwan", organised by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs together with the Enterprise Europe Network and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

Joint CoR-EC conference seeking to explore and exchange progress regarding Smart Specialisation: Agenda includes a Workshop session on the interactions between clusters and science parks. Brussels 26th January 2016


The ECCP team has participated in developing one of the workshops that will take place during this conference organised jointly by CoR-EC.  The main aim  of the event is to update and exchange knowledge and experience concerning the effectiveness and efficiency of supporting innovative entrepreneurship at territorial levels in the context of implementation of smart specialisation strategies. This would include exploring and discussing intra-regional governance issues of successful European Innovation Ecosystem as well as the quality and effectiveness of business support service providers such as clusters.

Representatives from national/regional authorities and practitioners from business and innovation support institutions organized in non-governmental networks such as EBN (gathering Incubators & Business & Innovation Centres, EU-BICs), IASP (gathering Science and Technology Parks, and Areas of Innovation), the European Cluster Collaboration Platform (gathering clusters), ERRIN & EURADA (gathering development agencies and Innovative regions), EARTO (gathering research & technology organizations, RTOS) and other innovation actors.

Transatlantic cluster cooperation kicks off with fruitful U.S. - EU exchange on best practices in cluster mapping and cluster-based economic policies



From 17th to 19th November 2015, 77 national and regional cluster policy-makers, experts and researchers from both the United States and the European Union gathered in Boston and Washington for a workshop to exchange experiences and best practices on cluster mapping, cluster portals and cluster-based economic development policies.


The workshop sparked rich discussions and insights into how to benchmark innovation clusters and how to get cluster policies right. It marked the beginning of efforts to intensify transatlantic cluster cooperation by the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Commerce.

EU Commission signs Atlantic Ocean Research Cooperation declaration with Brazil and announces a coordinated call on biofuels


The European Commission and the Brazilian government signed on 17 November 2015 in Rio a joint declaration for Atlantic Ocean Research to enhance marine cooperation between Europe and Brazil. The agreement follows the celebration of the EU-Brazil high level conference which aims to develop common expertise and scientific knowledge on the Atlantic Ocean and its dynamic systems, provide a new momentum for enhancing marine cooperation between Brazil and Europe and discuss how to further engage in joint research projects and improve reciprocal access to infrastructures. EU and China launch new Co-Funding Mechanism for research and innovation

A new co-funding mechanism aiming to support joint research and innovation activities PDF icon on topics in strategic areas of common interest and mutual benefit, such as food, agriculture, biotechnology, green transport – including aviation –, sustainable urbanisation, information and communication technologies, energy, health and mobility of young researchers was set up between the EU and China. Europe's leading bioeconomy clusters now working together as 3BI


New collaboration will boost the biobased economy in Europe


EFIB, Brussels, 28th October 2015 – the leading bioeconomy clusters in the Netherlands, France, the UK and Germany have today joined forces as the 3BI intercluster – Brokering Bio-Based Innovation. Their goal is to support European companies to access important new markets based on renewable raw materials successfully.

Memorandum of Understanding on multilateral Serbian-Czech-Russian-Romanian-Hungarian cluster cooperation


During the 6th Balkan and Black Sea conference "Days of Clusters" held from 22-23 October in Brasov, Romania, this MoU was signed between the Cluster House - Balkan Cluster Network, Serbia and the National Cluster Association, Czech Republic and Technounity Zelengrad, Russia and the Romanian Cluster Association ClusteRO, Romania and the Hungarian National Alliance of Innovative Clusters IKOSZ. The agreement shall foster coooperation in the field of cluster development, cluster policy optimization aand internationalization of cluster organisations. For more information see here.
